In this lesson, we will finish the painting unit by making our very own modern day cave paintings. We will be continuing our work from lesson 4 and will explore the use of sketching, stencilling and printing to make cave painting unique to you.

It's time for an end of unit project! For the next 2 lessons we will be picking up from where we left off in lesson 1 on 'Cave Paintings,' using our experiences from lesson 2 and 3 to help us create a masterpiece cave painting. The only difference is; your cave painting will be completely unique to you and include drawings of familiar sights and animals to you in your local area - so no mammoths! Get your creative hats on, it's time to get stuck in!

Have you ever painted without using a paint brush? In today's lesson we will be exploring artists who use unusual techniques to paint, and as a result, create unique marks, patterns and textures. You will experiment with lots of these techniques later on in the lesson, and you might need a parent or carer to support you in finding some materials around your home to do this.

In this very practical lesson, we will be taking a look at some photographs of the oldest paintings known to mankind. We will then move on to replicating a cave painting ourselves by working with a parent or carer to create natural paints from items we can find in our kitchen.

Taking on the role of detectives, we will be developing our observational skills; looking closely at objects in photographs and in real life to support us with this. To summarise our learning, we will be going outside to complete an observational drawing.

In this lesson, we will be exploring the ways artists use tonal value to bring their drawings to life. Later on in the lesson, we will create our own tonal value drawing using charcoal and chalk.

In this lesson, we will be hunting for shadows and exploring the different ways we can use shadows to inspire our drawings. Later on in the lesson, we will begin to discuss 'tone' and experiment with a range of drawing materials to understand a bit more about this term.

In this lesson, we will be thinking all about how colours can make us feel. We will begin to learn about the properties of colour and how to select colours for our art to express an emotion. At the end of the lesson we will be drawing a self-portrait in our sketch books using the colours that express how we are feeling today.

In this lesson, we will think about what it means to be 'good' at drawing. We will experiment with mark making in our sketch book and use a variety of media; pencils, crayons, pastels, felt tips and chalk to begin to explore the different outcomes these tools create.
