Update 2022: This report is from 2014, it doesn’t represent the current situation, we heard there has been a successful campaign to improve the sanitary situation. The inhabitants of the Mumbaian slums prefer to do ‘ their thing’ outside. A sewer as we know it doesn't exist there, so most people drop their dropping on the nearby beach. ‘There are only 4 toilet blocks for 25.000 people’, explains one of the residents. ‘When it’s finally your turn, the day is almost over!’. And what is the outcome of this problem Exactly, a beach full of crap. VPRO Metropolis is a video project by Dutch broadcast organization VPRO, that started in 2008. Metropolis is made by a global collective of young filmmakers and TV producers, reporting on remarkable stories from their own country or city.
