Real Madrid were held to their first draw of the season (Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Real Madrid). The team almost took the lead when Batalla saved Arda Güler's shot from the edge of the area. The home side responded in the 20th minute with a shot from Ratiu at the near post that was blocked by Courtois. From that point on, Xabi Alonso's men pushed forward and deserved to take the lead midway through the first half with two clear chances.
