Conor Benn became one of the biggest names in British boxing without ever winning a British, Commonwealth, European or world title. The son of British boxing legend Nigel Benn built an enormous profile, headlined huge events, became part of the Eubank family rivalry and eventually challenged Ryan Garcia for the WBC welterweight championship. But was Conor Benn's reputation growing faster than his achievements? In this Fight Fan documentary, I look at Benn's entire journey — from being Nigel Benn's son and his carefully developed early career, through the criticism of his opposition, the drug-test controversy, the extraordinary Chris Eubank Jr rivalry and finally the night he stepped into the ring with Ryan Garcia. Garcia stopped Benn in the second round in Las Vegas, retaining his WBC welterweight title and leaving one uncomfortable question hanging over Benn's career: how good is Conor Benn actually? This isn't about saying Conor Benn can't fight. He clearly can. It's about something much bigger in modern boxing. Have promoters, social media and enormous commercial events become so good at creating stars that we're sometimes calling fighters elite before they've actually proved it in the ring? You can manufacture popularity. You can manufacture rivalries. You can manufacture enormous paydays. But can you manufacture greatness? Let me know what you think below. 🥊 #ConorBenn #RyanGarcia #Boxing #ChrisEubankJr #TheFightFan
