Greetings from Lithuania. What a disgusting, boring, uninvolving and fall out gross piece of trash "Baskin" (2015) is. The premise itself sounded OK, i love horror movies in general so the premise of police officers got trapped in a "supernatural" situation sounded pretty good for me. Boy oh boy did i was wrong... This has to be one of the most disgusting movies i've ever seen. It is not just a gore or torture * - its flat out disgusting shxx. The story was a mess - how is it even possible to create a mess kind of a story in a 2x2 simple horror movie? "Baskin" is the answer. Acting wasn't bad but it doesn't matter here, as there were no character development at all. Script as well as the story itself were bad as well. Overall, as a big horror movie fan i can safely say to anyone looking for a descent or at least watchable horror flick - do look somewhere else because "Baskin" is a trash.

I love horror movies. I love even bad horror movies. This movie, was simply amazing. I was not expecting much, and I was not sure what a "Turkish" horror film would turn out to be, but it actually was pretty great. The first part of the movie sets the scene well, and we are taken on a journey of a tight-knit group of cops along their route for the night. Strange things occur throughout, finally leading up to a horrific ordeal inside what appears to be an abandoned house or chapel. The movie is very gruesome and disturbing, so for a horror fan like me that was great, but if you can't stomach it, you may need to pass. This movie was a fresh take on the word horror, the fact that it came from a Turkish studio and director does not diminish it at all but brings even more of an eeriness to it. Bravo!

BASKIN is a much-lauded Turkish horror film about a squad of cops who face a literal descent into purgatory when they answer a call for help in an abandoned house. On arrival they venture into the subterranean depths to find themselves menaced by a psychotic father figure who controls an army of sub-humanoids. Have the cops entered into hell itself or are they merely at the behest of a very human psycho? Don't go looking for many answers in this rather ambiguous and low budget slice of film-making. It's a deliberately arty film which is short on answers and long on questions, playing with the narrative structure at times to mess up the viewer's head. Sadly, the sum is rather less than some of the more interesting parts, particularly as this is a straight gore fest with little wit or insight to it. The first hour is a dullish bore in which the viewer must endure the company of some particularly moronic and unlikeable characters, while the last half hours turns into torture * with some good effects and a largely repellent tone. I found it brutish and predictable, and hardly worth the bother.

In BASKIN, the horror starts right away with an opening straight out of childhood nightmares. The scene switches to five cops hanging out in a diner. There's something just not right about the place, and some disturbing things occur without the knowledge of these policemen. A building sense of dread and uneasiness sets in before anything even happens. It's established immediately that these guys are hardened characters who have probably "seen it all". These are NOT the cops you want to pull you over in the middle of the night! Upon leaving the diner, there's a call for backup on the van radio. The creep-factor continues to rise, as incidents take place which have no plausible explanation. Then, some unearthly line is somehow crossed, and away we go! The best way to describe what transpires next, is a collective nightmare interrupted by spurts of semi-reality. Arriving at their destination, the weirdness only gets... weirder! Entering a decrepit mansion, the true madness begins. If you've ever wondered what a fun house in hell's sub-basement would be like, well, here it is! BASKIN is genuinely scary and completely messed up. Ultimately, it's a terrifying tale of supernatural retribution and doom. There is plenty of gore and degradation for these men, but what makes the movie so blood-freezing is the atmosphere of total malevolence that it conjures. True wickedness. Without this, BASKIN would be just another mindlessly debauched splatter film. By the time you reach its finale, you'll know what I mean...

First and foremost. The few times you could actually see the "gore" in this movie, then it was good. For the rest. Worthless. I would assume this is an "art" movie but for me, who just want a good horror movie: Big no-no. The story is confusing, there are tons and tons of questions that you don't get an answer to. The building is extremely long without anything real happening and the acting are not worth debating when compared to "real" movies. I am alittle satisfied that you get quite some time to actually see the villain, and try to understand his/hers (to avoid spoilers) character, and not just have it as a dark figure in 0.5 seconds clips. At the same time that raises a lot of questions to why the villain does as he does, et cetera. All in all: Waste of time.

It is honestly hard to explain how bad this movie was. Do not watch!!! I get it, it's Turkish horror and good for them for trying. But, wow. This was just so incredibly bad I can't even explain. I guess I have to give them credit for egging my curiosity to the point of finishing the movie, in order to see what was going to happen, but other than that this is simply miserable. The plot is practically non-existent and the only thing that kept me watching was trying to decipher a semblance of a story out of the cacophony of cliche's and stupidity. The ending really mad me mad. Arda kills the leader (Father) with a key in the forehead and then proceeds to smash his head with a stool, all while an annoying amount of blood is splattering all over the place. How much blood is in one head?? And he killed him with a key, A KEY?? They try to assign some BS meaning to this key when it seems to be completely insignificant to the plot. The key pops up nowhere in the rest of the movie and it looks like they just threw it in there in a half baked attempt to try and do something cool, but failed miserably. Watching the first 20 minutes you may think the movie has some potential and that I'm just a hater, but trust me, I originally felt the same way and now have wasted an hour and a half of my life. I'm trying to think of something insightful to say about the film, but there is literally nothing insightful about it. The scares weren't frightening, the attempts to make the viewer disgusted were just pathetic, the minion creatures that are supposed to be terrifying are contrived and overdone, and you can tell who is going to survive from within the first 10-15 minutes. No jump scares, no suspense, no empathy for a single character, no uneasy tones, their attempt at gore is awful, no plot, all in all I will never watch another movie by this director ever again. The only decent part(s) were some cool transitions every once in a while, which certainly does not outweigh the pain of sitting through this horrible excuse for a 'horror' movie. The only horrific thing about this film is that it has 5.7 stars. Seriously guys, how have you voted it up that high.

If you are tired of modern horror films filled with cheap and forced jump scares constructed in a way of muting down the sounds and then throwing an explosion of loud noises in your face to try to scare you, and are rather interested in watching a film filled with tension, dreadful atmosphere, interesting characters, symbolism and pure nightmare images look no further. Baskin (aka Police Raid) is a Turkish horror film directed by Can Evrol (in his directorial debut) and is based on short horror film of the same name. Story follows a group of police officers who stumble upon a Black Mass in an abandoned building. Sure, probably not an original scenario. You might feel like you probably seen this before, but it is the approach and execution that allows this film to rise above most of today's horror films. Tension is always present in Baskin, and it's dark and dreadful atmosphere builds all around you and won't let go so closing your eyes will mean nothing but surrender. Also, instead of a group of stupid, drunk and naked teens, this time we have a group of mature, experienced police officers and seeing them being overwhelmed with terror is even more frightening. There is a scene in which one of those police officers enters a room only to behold scenery so terrifying he loses his mind and starts screaming. There were no jump scares, just genuine terror. Maybe the last 20 minutes were kinda disappointing compared to the first half of the film, but Baskin is still overall a strong horror ride. If you are not a fan of violent and gory films, better skip this one. But if you're open minded and enjoy all types of horror movies you should definitely pay a visit to this hellish nightmare.
